This a a short unfinished film shot on a Canon EOS500D in 1080p, uploaded in 720p as it isn’t the final cut. The film shows a man being stalked. This upload is just showing where I am with it now. After a crit today, the wood scenes may be cut out, and less of the stalkers face shown. But I’ll keep editing to see what works best. Edited and colour corrected in After Effects CS5. Okay so for section 3 of the ‘Narrative’ brief for university I have the opportunity to create my own narrative in whatever media I wish. I have chosen to base mine on a man being stalked. The short film will be shot with a Canon EOs500D and a Sony Handycam all in 1080p HD then edited in Adobe After Effects.Here is a still from the video so far. The stalker is a creepy man who we as the viewer no little about him. He is dressed in a boiler suit holding his head down and has an obsession with the man he stalks. I am shooting the video in a nearby woodland area and will be adding music and visual effects in the final production.

THE UGLY DUCKLING | GROUP PROJECT USING STRING

For this one week project myself, Craig Atkinson and Grace Bond worked together using string to create a children’s story. We chose ‘The Ugly Duckling’ and used different types of string to represent the characters. A weathered piece of string of the Ugly Duckling, Soft yellow wool for the Ducklings and Brown wool for the Mother duck. We also represented the swans with white ribbon. BOY A & BOY B | NARRATIVE USING STRING

For stage one in text sequence and interaction, I finished the string project with a deep and strong storyline. Partly based on the 2007 film ‘Boy A’. Using string to tell the story of two characters creating evil and committing murder. They are sent to prison and after begin their new lives reformed.

I have just been giving the brief for the new unit at university called text, sequence and interaction. The unit is split into three stages- I’ll keep this blog updated with my progress throughout the unit. Stage one- to experiment with a piece or pieces of string to create a narrative structure of a beginning, middle and end in some way. This will then be applied to a print base outcome. Today I photographed a small set of trials, experimenting with string. One idea I wanted to show was growth or age, showing how we start off small and grow up in time. A few examples:

KEENO | NEW LOGO DESIGN

I was contacted by producer ‘Keeno’ who has been making some very impressive beats- check out his soundcloud. He told me he was looking for a new logo to represent him, simple and with colour. VISUAL SYSTEMS | UNIVERSITY PROJECT

The brief was to create a visual system. Here’s mine explained: It’s great to look back on what you did or had as a child. To be able to bring back memories and share with family and friends. Yet sometimes you forget and want all your memories in one place. The purpose of my visual system is to store memories.Childhood Collections is a design and book making system aimed at collectors’ and children. The idea is for the user to collect a series of books that have been beautifully designed and finished showing all their childhood toys from years ago. Each book would be categorized into one sort of toy. For example a book on ‘Hotwheels’, showing exciting photographs of the die cast toys and information about them. Not only will the book bring back memories through photos, but by having memories in text throughout the book. The idea is to make more than one book to collect a series. The user would be able to interact and have the ability to customize the books format, the paper used to print on and the design layout and content. The following will be available through an online website called childhoodcollections.com with an easy-to-use interface. The website gives you the option to build the book yourself or use templates.

The two books that I have made are examples of what is possible in my system. They are perfect bound with a cover sleeve which both include a simple design and a ‘wooden feel’ front cover – as my collections where always kept in wooden boxes. Users would have the ability to upload their own photographs of their childhood toys or use the online database. The database stores thousands of photographs taken by photographers. This gives the user the chance to find a specific toy and make the book look professional. Identifying the books in your collection may seem a challenge, as there is no information on the spine but a colour band. However, the collection is yours, the user, it’s personal. The coloured band gives each book its own identity, not only is it visually appealing but a shade of colour that is just for a certain group of toys. This becomes more interesting for family and friends looking through the books not knowing what they will find.

How will the books be stored? Bookend storage would be available to the user to purchase from the web- site. The bookends are designed not only to hold the books as a collection but to be noticed by everyone because of their style. The design gives you the freedom to take the collection anywhere with you, due to the user-friendly handle and base. This would be ideal to bring with you on family occasions. Not only is the bookend storage visually exciting but also it is lightweight, built from Acrylic plastic and has an adjustable height and width to extend or reduce your book collection. The bookend storage is finished in a wooden vinyl giving the collection an older, retro feel. Users would be able to customize the bookend storage with sticker packs and change the name of their collection to what- ever they wished.
